Journeyman League Games

The Warmachine/Hordes League has begun! I met several people I have seen but never played against or conversed with on Tuesday. It was nice seeing the armies being painted for the slow growth league and everyone appeared to have much competitive fun. I got two games in and was fortunate to have won both. However; Jay (Menoth) and Hawk (Trollbloods) exercised much patience and provided coaching as I played my first tourney games against them. You can't ask for nicer guys to play games against and it appears this is the mentality of the players so far in this game - fun first! - and the advancement of the hobby with new players. Lovin' it! Here is a quick shot of Jay's beautiful Protectorate of Menoth Warmachine 11 point army:

Legion faces off against the Protectorate in game one.

Jay's Warcaster and entourage less one light 'jack...

...who is kinda busy right now!

These are not "in game" photos since I plain forgot to snap pics. I also didn't get any shots of Hawk's Trollbloods as I didn't want to slow the game down.

The highlight for me in game one against Jay was absorbing his attack. As usual my opponents seem to have feats or abilities that knock down my puppies making them very vulnerable to attacks. Jay did this and sent his 'jacks and caster against my heavy beast - the Carnivean - which is greatly feared. I had destroyed Jay's light 'jack earlier with my "ankle biter" puppies (Shredders) but now Jay was going for the crippling blow. His heavy warjack hit the Carnie several times but with minimal damage due to poor die rolls. The Carnivean has an Animus (Spiny Growth) which deals 1d3 damage to its opponent every time it is hit. The net effect of Jay's combat was each model took 7 damage and I was knocked down! Jay sent his caster in but he couldn't finish the job. Carnie stood up on my turn and finished off the enemy caster - game to Legion.

Game 2 started with an offensive blitz by Hawk's Trollbloods and ranged weapons. I lost 2 of my Shredders before they worked up a lather. Hawk cast his feat which lowered my defense and speed so I could essentially do nothing offensive on my turn. Hawk coached me to be patient and use guerilla tactics with what remained of Lylyth's army starting with a tactical withdrawal to buy time. I do NOT like to withdraw from a fight but I decided to try the tactic in this new game system. What the heck? Using terrain to hide my army which is to my advantage as I can see and move through most terrain where my opponent cannot, I started to pick at the Trollbloods. A couple of opportune shots from Lylyth and an attack on a light beast by Carnie started to get me back into the fight. Hawk had a choice - go after my feared Carnivean and deal a crippling blow or go after Lylyth with a daring assasination run. After a successful shot against the Carnivean which, you guessed it, knocked him down, Hawk decided to finish him off without success. His last attack left his caster, Grim, in melee range of the big fallen beast. Carnie stood up after Lylyth shot Grim with her Hellsinger bow and tore Grim to pices. Game 2 to Legion!

I am looking forward to many more exciting and fun filled games of Warmachine/Hordes in this Journeyman League. Great games with nice people fielding nice looking armies, what's not to love?

Happy Gaming!!!
