What the Trump coalition is

A reader observed, "governing by passing laws is no longer a goal for the Communists. They want only the presidency for its executive powers, the courts for enforcement, the House for obstruction, the Senate for the judges and assault on the executive should they fail to keep power."

Once you understand how the opposition operates, we can win because we, too, can become the enemy from within that topples the establishment.

Remember "Red Dawn"?

The reader referred to a piece by
Stephen B. Presser, the Raoul Berger Professor of Legal History Emeritus at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law, and the author of “Law Professors: Three Centuries of Shaping American Law” (West Academic Publishers, 2017).
I tried to follow along but he was writing over my head. His main point is the courts have overrun the land, which is not a novel or new idea. My reader expanded upon this.

Presser concluded, "Donald Trump and William Barr have their work cut out for them in rooting out the excrescences of an overweening federal leviathan, and Trump’s appointments to the federal bench should be instrumental in that effort, as well.

"It is now time, however, for our law schools, enamored as they have been with the Warren Court and with judicial policy making, to come to an understanding that a return to more traditional notions of jurisprudence and constitutional hermeneutics are essential. If the rule of law and popular sovereignty are to remain as the cornerstones of our polity and our Constitution — the real appeal of Donald Trump to his supporters, and the two quintessential aspects of American greatness — this simply is indispensable."

Now we are getting somewhere.

The Trump coalition is a nationalist rebuke of the courts, the bureaucrats, and the chief executives (presidents) writing laws. There are many other elements in it but those elements seem to return to the courts, bureaucrats, and presidents writing laws.

For example, evangelists ignored his two divorces and playboy lifestyle because they believed that he would be the best vehicle to end the killing of babies in the womb. Life is a series of compromises. Christians cannot end adultery but they sure as heck can stop abortions.

This requires court action. Thanks to Mitch McConnell, President Trump has appointed two justices and kept the Supreme Court conservative, as well as 41 circuit judges out of 179. Give him eight years, and he will have appointed 100 appellate judges -- a clear majority.

This has emboldened states to pass laws that will challenge Roe v. Wade. Change is coming.

Coalition governments are fairly common in America. Obama's coalition included whites who felt he would end racism and blacks who felt he would confront racism. Neither group was satisfied. His health care plan satisfied no one. Environmentalists got a river turning orange with toxic waste.

The only ones who did well under him were billionaires, Iran and Red China.

The Trump coalition included Obama supporters who still wanted change, people who were left behind by that change, and those who opposed Obama's change.

Conservative dissatisfaction with governments both Republican and Democrat began in 1992. But it took a quarter-century to reach the critical mass necessary to win the presidency.

Had Donald Trump come along in 2008 and Sarah Palin in 2016, she would be president.

However, given her resignation as governor in 2010, she would lack the wherewithal to survive the Mueller witch hunt.

Ace pointed out a significant factor in President Trump's success.

Ace wrote, "Trump is known as a builder, but if there's anything really Trump likes to do, it's breaking things. Trump broke Kathy Griffin. He broke her really badly. He broke Michael Moore. He reduced Hillary Clinton to a bitter old drunk. He broke both Michael Avenatti and Stormy Daniels. He broke Rosie O'Donnell. He broke his former aide Omarosa. He's in the process of breaking the anti-Trump propaganda network CNN completely. Everyone who goes up against Trump loses."

Careful people notice patterns. Fortunately for us and the popcorn industry, our enemies are careless.

The Trump coalition hangs together for three reasons:

1. We are under constant attack.

2. We are making progress.

3. We are entertained by the way so many of our enemies kiss the wall in this political Nascar race.
